Street-Level Youth Media educates Chicago's urban youth in media arts and emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication, and social change.
The Summer Arts Apprenticeship Program (SAAP) is an 8-week internship program that challenges youth ages 14 to 19 to push their artistic boundaries and engage in an intensive course of individual and collaborative art making. The program utilizes a combination of classroom learning, media lab time, individual projects, field trips, and one-on-one mentoring sessions with working artists.
For 2007 the SAAP topic was “Technology and the Future” and was looking at the future of technology and young people’s vision for how technology will impact their lives. Special attention was paid to understanding the role youth have in shaping culture, creating change within their communities, and making the future of our society.
