First Hotel on the Moon Finally Opens
August 23, 2025 - Today a new chapter in space tourism was written. Rod Markham and his wife-to-be Susan Millster arrived safely to the moon to spend 5 days as the first guests at the Starbright Hotel that was set up for this purpose two years ago.
Not are they only the first hotel guests on the moon, they also set a new record for expensive accommodation since the price was US$ 3,7 million per night, per person. However, the exclusive transfer from earth to the hotel was included in the price.
The hotel itself will probably have a tough time just to try to gain one star at any hotel rating system, since there is no room service, the guests have to do the cleaning of the room themselves and there is no bathroom in them. However, they have more stars than they need just outside their window.
Rod and Susan will get married through link by their local minister in San Diego, California at 9.00pm EST tonight, and the wedding will be broadcasted live by several major TV networks in a 1-hour special including the preparations for the trip.
They were accompanied by six other astronauts that during the stay will set up further accommodations for the guests that have made reservations at the Starbright Hotel next year. The hotel has so far no employees, only temporary staff when guests.
Argument: Apart from the few tourists that already have been out in space, commercial space flights will be available in 2008 through companies like Space Adventures and Virgin Galactic, even though they will just be out in space for a short time. Since several organizations plan to put the first man on Mars by 2030, new trips to the moon will take place around 2015-2020. That combined with the increasing interest in space tourism in the next decade will open up to the possibility to make a reservation on the moon.
Questions: How will the first permanent accommodations on the moon look like? Will we be able to follow space flights live on TV, like today's reality shows? What will a vacation on the moon be like, what would the exclusive attractions be apart from the view?

Actually, they will stay at the Lunar Lodge...

is this true ?

It's not very unlikely that there will be a civilian tourist on a flight at first probably "around the moon" and then go back to earth.
This will probably be in about 30-50 years but who can really know.
An interesting question is if this can be achieved by a private interest?
But when it comes to space travel or any form of transportation or greater technical achievements it all in the end comes down to the amount of available energy that is to our posposal.
Like if we were to create a portable fusion reactor that could provide thrust for a spaceship in a manner far better than the rockets of today, space travel would probably be more common.

how would you get their and how much would it cost
Posted by: cameron covington
Thomas, you can actually today buy a space trip "around the Moon" as a private expedition, from Space Adventures. They will go around the Moon, without landing there, and back to Earth.
To land on the Moon is a totally different expedition, but to be able to go to Mars they have to go to the Moon first, which NASA plans for year 2020.

this would be really cool if it happens, but is it? & they should deffinatly have some vending machines for people who get hungry at night.

When is this so called hotel being built?
Posted by: andrew knell
i somehow don't see this as being a very viable business.
space tourism ok.
but a) you have to have a shitload of cash to build a hotel on the moon.
b) very expensive to maitain
c) kind of a hazardous vacation.
d)you may be rich but going to the moon isnt a cup of tea ,its not all hair dryers and complementary breafest..
this just seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen

By this time Earth's central government will admit to the existence of the Lunar Beings already on the Moon. These people will naturally have jobs in the hotel as maids, bellmen, restaurant workers, etc. Some of them might be Lunatics but hey, that's a chance we'll have to take
Posted by: Ottoman
I'm a lunatic, can I work there? I will be in charge of tuning the piano.
Posted by: RB
That would be alot...i mean A LOT of money wasted on something as going to a half-baked hotel...motel lol.. then theres the extreme hazards. space(no air)(extreme temperature) everything has to be extremely correct or those wonderful deaths would start to rack up on the bill lol just joking but that would be pretty fun floating around, feeling true inertia, spit balls floating you know zero gravity. It would be fun to go to the moon for a small vacation!!

it will probably be more like a space station made for scientist and specialized technicians to do studies. I have a hard time seeing your average idiot up there.

Folks just llok up zero point energy! This might be a solution to some of earth energy concerns and maybe used to fuel the new space craft.

They don't have any hotels now in Antarctica now, then what chance would we have hotels in the moon in the fuutre? We'll have scientific bases and research facilities in the future so a guest can stay there, but I doubt hotels.

The price is ridiculous, I wonder how is that special to live in space for five days. Why not book a super glamorous suit for 4 weeks other than spending this huge amount of money just for accommodation that is similar to bed and breakfast type of services, not that it's a 7 star hotel.

how would the hotel stay on the moon if there is no gravity?
