First Hotel on the Moon Finally Opens
August 23, 2025 - Today a new chapter in space tourism was written. Rod Markham and his wife-to-be Susan Millster arrived safely to the moon to spend 5 days as the first guests at the Starbright Hotel that was set up for this purpose two years ago.
Not are they only the first hotel guests on the moon, they also set a new record for expensive accommodation since the price was US$ 3,7 million per night, per person. However, the exclusive transfer from earth to the hotel was included in the price.
The hotel itself will probably have a tough time just to try to gain one star at any hotel rating system, since there is no room service, the guests have to do the cleaning of the room themselves and there is no bathroom in them. However, they have more stars than they need just outside their window.
Rod and Susan will get married through link by their local minister in San Diego, California at 9.00pm EST tonight, and the wedding will be broadcasted live by several major TV networks in a 1-hour special including the preparations for the trip.
They were accompanied by six other astronauts that during the stay will set up further accommodations for the guests that have made reservations at the Starbright Hotel next year. The hotel has so far no employees, only temporary staff when guests.
Argument: Apart from the few tourists that already have been out in space, commercial space flights will be available in 2008 through companies like Space Adventures and Virgin Galactic, even though they will just be out in space for a short time. Since several organizations plan to put the first man on Mars by 2030, new trips to the moon will take place around 2015-2020. That combined with the increasing interest in space tourism in the next decade will open up to the possibility to make a reservation on the moon.
Questions: How will the first permanent accommodations on the moon look like? Will we be able to follow space flights live on TV, like today's reality shows? What will a vacation on the moon be like, what would the exclusive attractions be apart from the view?

January 19, 2035 - According to the latest statistics presented this week, 1 million hydrogen-fueled cars have now been sold in the US. The figures for last year show an increase in sales by 50% from 2033.

January 8, 2035 - With a first prize of seven million US dollar and the intriguing plot of trying to fool or outsmart Arnold, the most advanced artificial intelligence in public use, the much hyped live show “Fooling Arnold” became the people’s choice this Saturday.
December 20, 2030 - The launch yesterday of the virtual realistic-looking human newscaster from Simple News gained rave reviews. Others have made several attempts earlier, but this sends the live newscasters in to a pretty shaky future.
December 18, 2020 - This year shows strong growth for wind power when the total global installed capacity added a record 62,000 MW, making the total capacity more than 680,000 MW. Wind power is by far the renewable source with the largest growth in worldwide capacity during the last decade.
December 15, 2030 - There's no doubt what the most popular Christmas present will be this year. Influenced by the launch of the first manned mission to Mars next month, you will most likely get a present with stars, a gift card for a spacetrip.
November 19, 2040 - Today was a historic day for Iceland when their President this morning at a symbolic ceremony officially shut down the last gasoline pump in the country. Iceland is a model country when it comes to the fuel transition from gasoline to hydrogen and became today the first country in the world to complete it.
September 21, 2050 - At a press conference today it was announced that the first tourist heading for Mars will be the 38-year-old US businessman Patrick Clifford. He will leave the earth in the launching window of June 2052 and set his foot on the surface of Mars in November, together with the other 6 astronauts assigned for the mission to further explore the planet.
September 12, 2035 - Are you kidding? Is it possible to beam myself? No, of course not, but you can now make a 3-D projection of yourself anywhere in the world. The first product for real teleimmersion has been released, the Telebeamer.
September 5, 2035 - More than 20,000 quadriplegics around the world have now got a BCI, a Brain Computer Interface. It gives them the ability to control their environment, from driving their own electric wheelchairs outside their house, to make their own dinner.

Actually, they will stay at the Lunar Lodge...

This is crazy. How is there a hotel on the moon.I'm like the moon is in space how can a hotel be in space. Please send me a picture of it.
Posted by: danyelle borden
Actually, it is not a "Hotel." It is more of a Bed and Breakfast with awesome views.
Posted by: Enis Pevey
is this true ?
Posted by: tierra
It's not very unlikely that there will be a civilian tourist on a flight at first probably "around the moon" and then go back to earth.
This will probably be in about 30-50 years but who can really know.
An interesting question is if this can be achieved by a private interest?
But when it comes to space travel or any form of transportation or greater technical achievements it all in the end comes down to the amount of available energy that is to our posposal.
Like if we were to create a portable fusion reactor that could provide thrust for a spaceship in a manner far better than the rockets of today, space travel would probably be more common.
Posted by: Thomas
how would you get their and how much would it cost
Posted by: cameron covington
Thomas, you can actually today buy a space trip "around the Moon" as a private expedition, from Space Adventures. They will go around the Moon, without landing there, and back to Earth.
To land on the Moon is a totally different expedition, but to be able to go to Mars they have to go to the Moon first, which NASA plans for year 2020.

this would be really cool if it happens, but is it? & they should deffinatly have some vending machines for people who get hungry at night.

If you were to make a TV or radio commercial to advertise holidays to the Lunar Hotel on the moon..how would it go and what are you offering
Posted by: Susan Clifford
how will you eat? or even stay on your bed, would you be floating?

this is great shit man. living on the moon not just living working sleaping and of course fucking in the moon thats a niceeeeeeeee. and probely around 2678 a mankind will be able to conquer the universe so dont wait work we have to much work to do cheers

Human wants everything!
This is very ridiculous!
There's a lot of people hungry in the world, a lot of people sick!
Why don't human help this people?
BECAUSE THE HUMAN ONLY WANTS MONEY AND THEY WANT MORE AND MORE THINGS!
The humans only think in themselves!
FUCK THIS HOTEL!

When is this so called hotel being built?
Posted by: andrew knell
i somehow don't see this as being a very viable business.
space tourism ok.
but a) you have to have a shitload of cash to build a hotel on the moon.
b) very expensive to maitain
c) kind of a hazardous vacation.
d)you may be rich but going to the moon isnt a cup of tea ,its not all hair dryers and complementary breafest..
this just seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen

hotel on moon they will defo do it they have already been to the moon and send robots to mars why not and by the time its 3000 there will be hotels on ever plannet and moons we may even own anothere galaxy

By this time Earth's central government will admit to the existence of the Lunar Beings already on the Moon. These people will naturally have jobs in the hotel as maids, bellmen, restaurant workers, etc. Some of them might be Lunatics but hey, that's a chance we'll have to take
Posted by: Ottoman
I'm a lunatic, can I work there? I will be in charge of tuning the piano.
Posted by: RB
That would be alot...i mean A LOT of money wasted on something as going to a half-baked hotel...motel lol.. then theres the extreme hazards. space(no air)(extreme temperature) everything has to be extremely correct or those wonderful deaths would start to rack up on the bill lol just joking but that would be pretty fun floating around, feeling true inertia, spit balls floating you know zero gravity. It would be fun to go to the moon for a small vacation!!

They don't have any hotels now in Antarctica now, then what chance would we have hotels in the moon in the fuutre? We'll have scientific bases and research facilities in the future so a guest can stay there, but I doubt hotels.
Posted by: Funny
The price is ridiculous, I wonder how is that special to live in space for five days. Why not book a super glamorous suit for 4 weeks other than spending this huge amount of money just for accommodation that is similar to bed and breakfast type of services, not that it's a 7 star hotel.
Posted by: Perfectionist Gal
how would the hotel stay on the moon if there is no gravity?
Posted by: bobbie logan
First of all, the moon has 1/6 earths gravity. Not zero, that is in space. Just like buildings on Earth, they would have the center of gravity below the surface. This website is news of the future, it is not real.
Anyways, really do some research. The price is actually quite reasonable seeing inflation is going to drive the price of everything by 2025. You must account for basic upkeep, fuel, food, oxygen, materials, everything.
I would say the 2040's seem a bit more realistic, but space tourism is big business. It really would not surprise me to see a hotel in 30 years. Plenty of billionaires can fund it, there is over 1000 billionaires on the planet.
Posted by: Shawn Nichols
Sure... lets say it's true but It cant be possible that this will come in cheap. I can guess that the only people there will be Bill Gates or someone really rich.
Posted by: Rey
By 2025 Virgin Galactic, Space Adventures, Rocketship Tours, and all of the other space tourism operators will probably be offering sub-orbital flights into space for only a few thousand dollars. I don't see why it seems so far fetched to believe a crude moon visit would cost more than a few million dollars per guest. Bigelow Aerospace has already launched several prototype space modules for their space hotel and are in fact preparing to launch their first human rated module in the 2010-2012 time frame. prices for a week-long stay in the Bigelow Aerospace hotel are projected to be around seven million dollars per guest depending mostly on the launch operators fees (i.e. taking a Russian Soyuz would cost three times more than taking a Dragon capsule atop a Falcon 9 rocket). Anyways the point is western society is experiential; people don't do things because they make sense. If something is within the proper price range most people are going to want to do it just for the "experience." Space Tourism is going to become an industry the size of the cruise line industry within the next two decades, except it will be far more accessible because a sub-orbital space plane like Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo is capable of taking off from any normal commercial airport runway. Mark my words: Anyone who reads this who is under the age of 30 will likely experience a trip to space in their lifetime.

HOw could all of this happen? It wont all happen. How do they even know all this would happen. there just putting all this stuf down so some one can just have somtin to read and then go talk about it all the time.
Posted by: Blake
Blake, Ofcourse this would happen, it just to take some time. In some decades ago the human being didn't think the man would fly. Ever there are people interested in some expensive experiences, if they have money to spend so do it.

Maybe this will happen eventually, but not by 2025. More like 2125.
Posted by: Anonymous
is this really true
Posted by: cj
I can see why they would want to build a hotel on the moon. People need to explore, and expansion is part of survival. If we can build a hotel on the moon eventually we will find a way to live on other planets when we need to.
But any person who can spend 3,7 million for one person each night is insane! Even if you can afford that it wouldn't really be worth is to stay one night, because the flight would be longer than the trip. But staying for long periods of time is hazardous towards the human health. We don't have exacts on what this will do to the human body, but the 0g will have major effects on bone and muscle physiology and the cardiovascular system.
Yeah, this trip may help us to see these effects, but seriously, some of this money can go to helping people all around the world.
Posted by: Anonymous
This sounds bit too complicated for 2025. First of all that hotel would have to have it's own artificial gravitation field so guests and staff wouldnt float around together with furniture. Also, how will all material necessary for building the hotel be shiped there, and where would builders be situated while building? Don't think it will happen, sounds cool, tho i have no idea what would anyone actually do on the moon. It isnt really beautiful place, at least according to the pics. Plus the whole voyage there and back would last longer than actual staying at the hotel.

Hey, @Camila, it's called change/advancement.
And for all those hungry kids in the world, they chose their chart and now they're learning. It's what they came to Earth for. It's only a heartache because you're human, and you feel pain, remorse and sorrow.
No worries. The soul can be damaged, but I doubt such education can do that job.
Posted by: Tera
By making a hotel on the moon, people aren't denying the fact that there are hungry people in the world. This hotel is just to show how much mankind has accomplish and the future of space travel.
Posted by: Amanda
I don't doubt that a hotel will be made in space, but I'm not sure about an actual permanent establishment on the moon. Maybe they would land some sort of space hotel on the moon. It'll be more of a cruise than anything. That could be happening by 2025, but a permanent establishment will not be there by that year.
K, and those of you that think this is some news story that has actually already taken place, you're in some desperate need of a few years of education. This website is News of the Future! It's what people think might happen in the future! DERRRR!

Are you stupid? Seriously, think about what you are saying.
Also, to the people that can't figure out gravity on the moon.... It has gravity. All matter has gravity, the moon just has less gravity than Earth, because it has less mass.

I think there is a lot of commentators that are not getting it that there is gravity on the moon (1/6 of earth's gravity)! Here a little explanation: We will be lighter and would be able to make great jumps but we will still be attracted to the moon's surface. A little bit similar to standing on the bottom of a pool with some light weights around your waist. Interesting fact also: If you hit a golf ball hard enough on the surface of the moon it would continuously spin around the moon similar to our earthly satellites. Hope this helps enlighten some of our readers.

First off you don't need to super glue the hotel to the ground because there is gravity on the moon, just a small fraction of whats on earth so people or hotels aren't going to just float away. Remember seeing any of the moon landing videos where the astronauts are jumping up and down? That should indicate to you that there is gravity on the moon. For those of you that think we won't have a hotel or base on the moon you would be the same as people 100 years ago who couldn't understand or believe that one day we would actually send men into space, it seemed far fetched at the time because technology wasn't far enough along however smart logical people understood that all that was needed was advancements in certain types of technologies to make this possible. If you look back in history you see the kinds of changes that have taken place in the world, to any logical thinking person it is more than clear that we will definitely have bases and/or hotels on the moon and other planets because we actually already have all the technologies to make this happen so it is not a matter of if we can, it's a matter of when. The fact that we have the technologies should make this concept not at all far fetched especially when compared to 100 years ago when we didn't have any such technolagies and yet some people still knew that we would be able to send men into space, some people just saw our advancement as common sense and definite and they were right, just as the writers on here are right about hotels opening on the moon. Some people just need to open thier brains up a little bit.

running away to the moon will probably be the best option we have when us humans run out of ressources and food on earth. All I see is that the way things are going here on earth today will give next generation a very saw and sad future . To be honest most of us are already on the moon or in virtual dreamland and don't see what is happening on our home planet. This place called earth is the only place in our solar system that has everything we need. The moon seems like a cold and boring place to live on. We should look after our home and save it today rather than finding another place to distroy with hotels and so on. Like the idea but be honest, there'se no place like home.

we as humans dont deserve living in the moon their are way too many problems /issues here on earth if we all finally learn how to get along with each other no matter what ethnesity ,religion and the language we speak like a good civilized human beings then maybe then we deserve to go

I happened to come by this website as a mistake. It would be much more enjoyable if half of the comments were seemingly written by a 2nd grade student (or if I hadn't come by 2 years after the comments). Alas, I'm not one to claim I havn't made a few mistakes myself though at 16.
It seems inevitable that we will have space tourism but to have a hotel on the moon by 2025? I'd say China would have a base by 2025, and a hotel by around 2040-2050.
By the way, THERE IS GRAVITY ON THE MOON, THERE IS ALWAYS GRAVITY - WHAT YOU ARE THINKING OF IS CALLED FREE FALLING
