Here are thoughts about the future from one of the participants of the Street-Level Youth Media’s Summer Arts Apprenticeship Program 2007, "Technology and the Future":

New Super HIV Number 1 Threat to Human Race

July 8, 2043 - Today, the Surgeon General’s office announced that a new strand of HIV has developed. This so-called “super virus” is always changing and evolving. The virus has combined with another virus called Airotomoton, causing the HIV virus to become airborne.

This new HIV virus mutates at an alarming rate, which eventually leads to SAIDS, Super Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. This disease causes your immune system to completely shut down within a few hours. As a result, victims die of a simple cold or fever within one day.

Since the new airborne virus is so easy to catch, the whole world has to be put in quarantine separating the healthy from the sick. The National Guard spokesman announced today that any infected citizens who try to cross the quarantine border will be eliminated to lower the risk of spreading the disease. Starting tomorrow, everyone will be tested and sent to a designated quarantine zone.
