A Quarter of the US Population Hispanic
May 23, 2050 - The US population has now grown to 419 million people, of which almost a quarter, 24.4%, are of Hispanic origin. Their share of the population has almost doubled since 50 years ago and there are now more than 102 million Hispanic living in the US.
The US population is still increasing in contrast to most major European countries (apart from the United Kingdom) where the population has declined during the last decades. If you are out for a partner, you have still more to choose from if you are looking for a woman, since they out-number the men by almost 7 million.
Argument: The numbers are based on the U.S. Interim Projections by Age, Sex, Race, and Hispanic Origin from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Questions: How will the increasing share of people with Hispanic origin of the US population affect the society in general? How will the fact that the US population increases while the European population is declining affect the balance between the two regions?

Well that sure does suck.

and why would that suck josh?

yeah why would it suck? Hispanos are amazing people, and surely being a quarter of the American population is a great thing, at least according to me

I think that this will be fine. There was a point in the history of the u.s. when the irish and the germans were in about the same position as hispanics are now. And that seems to have turned out just fine.

just throwing something politically incorrect in here, but it WILL suck. i am hispanic, my parents are 100% legal American's but have origins in Colombia and Puerto Rico (and love and respect the United States with all their hearts), and let me tell you that even i recognize that a national identity is at stake. It's going to be a hard adjustment, and if any of you knew about hispanic society and mentality, you would know that that would mean a lot more than any caucasion is willing to admit without running the risk of sounding racist or xenophobic. and don't get me started on some of my family members who believe they are entitled to what this country offers, don't bother to integrate just a little (ie, don't care about learning English) and segregate themselves by clustering around each other and thumbing their noses at the flag while putting their origin country's colors on a pedestal. for this to be a good thing, we all, of every race, color, nationality, have to work at being a single united identity. only then can i see this not sucking in the future.

This is different from Irish and Germans. Each time this happens, there's no turning back. Once white's become the minority, they will ALWAYS be the minority. In fact, one day (if we exist that long) America will be either 95% hispanic/african/asian or some mixed form of that. Europe will probably be 75% african/non-white... this is what happens when countries gov't open borders and give up everything for simply MONEY.

wow trust me im african american and what jp is saying is completely true... if we do let the whole border thing fall apart the U.S will be a whole lot of something that isnt what america is.. i like that example with the whole 95% thing.

interesting. Thats why you all have to learn not only Spanish, but about spanish speaking ppl. Politically, they are conservatives. This does not bode well for the future or women's rights. They are traditionalist, meaning change will be slow to come.

lol that would suck

theres no way that anyone will make us have Spanish as a second official language we didn't do it for Germans Italians Chinese or anyone (some signs and stuff but not in school or official lang)i have a lot of German and Irish ancestry and i'm glad its still English

I don't mean to sound racist, but I fear for the Caucasians becoming the "minority".

Well since us whites are now the minority, with only 6% we just became the universal slaves. we are open for use for anyone on Mars and Venus. Mercury has yet to respond

The process of globalization is showing that trend, nationalistic views will eventually change through the future generations.
does it make a sharp difference, perhaps today's views may border in the reluctance to this trend, however the aging population of the United states will require a constant flow of renewed workforce and such necessity will spur this future news to become a reality.
Is this a negative trend towards national identity? I do not agree with many people today, several external cultures had influenced the united states, as a matter of fact the american culture is a pollock painting at its best, from french, irish , german, italian, african and asian influences that shows an amalgamated culture, the united states is not a culture shaped and firm through history, but it has changed over the years, and some of those changes have been definitive, what is the United states as a culture? if not a complete scenario of previous immigrations and acculturizations?, we at this present moment see this change the same as the Irish and others saw during the great italian immigrations.
Now, going back to the real call of the question, is this what the future will look like?, the trend shows still a stark difference in economical stability between the United States and latinamerica, economic pressure is the main reason for mass migrations, and there is already a tendency to accept this immigration as part of the culture (the same as it was before with europeans coming to the US), hence it is very likely that this will happen.
Now, will the number 25% actually will become an accurate reality in that year?, the average immigrant comes at the peak of their reproductive age, hence it is very likely that the percentage will be larger , taking into consideration that culturally there is a tendency for larger families.
will it be a "country divided"? well I personally think that it will be very hard to think that the hispanics will maintain a separate culture, it think that the United States that we "idealistically" know today will be very different in 2025-2030, and that there will be a complete melting of the american cultures into one. will the changes make the "white culture" dissapear, among some of the myths more commonly accepted is that of a "white culture", the reality is that Italians, french, irish, germans, have included part of their cultures into what we want to define as "white culture", the openess of our cultural spectrum is what makes us americans, hence the "american culture" will be shaped as to who will consider himself or herself american. and that trend will be defined by certain values and some abstract concepts based on a simple subjective belief that will determine what is really the united states of america.

Mwwhhaa. 7 million more women. The next 50 years are going to be good times for the lesbians. :)

It will NOT be 25% "Hispanic",
but 25% MEXICAN.
Columbians, Puerto Ricans, and others won't be much else but a small minority slice of the pie dwarfed by the MEXICANIZATION of everything.
Due to the proximity to Mexico, MEXICANS will increase at a dramatically higher rate than all other "Hispanics". Expect to see Central Americans absorbed by the Mexican Goliath as well, through intermarriage mostly.
Look at the breakdown of "Hispanics" and you'll see that already MEXICANS make up over 65%. Expect to see that increase.

Hell yeah one day hispanics will rule america an the gringos will need passoports to come to america an hispanics will need no documentrs to work os visits

Comparing Mexican Americans to the Irish or other group of immigrants is just a show of ignorance of american history. Spanish has been spoken continously since before the US existed in today's US territory and was used for government in the southwest after the american takeover. Spanish is just reviving as a result of immigration but this is in turn a reversal of the tide in which the anglo are in retreat because they have become -in spite of their individual achievements- social degenerates. Spanish is not a foreign language but a minority one and has all the right to growth.
