First Tourist Heading for Mars
September 21, 2050 - At a press conference today it was announced that the first tourist heading for Mars will be the 38-year-old US businessman Patrick Clifford. He will leave the earth in the launching window of June 2052 and set his foot on the surface of Mars in November, together with the other 6 astronauts assigned for the mission to further explore the planet.
Patrick has now two years of training ahead of him to get ready for the trip. Not only will he spend five months in getting to Mars, but another 600 days there before he can go back home. Patrick was of course very excited: "This has been my dream since I was four, and seeing the first man on Mars 20 years ago made me realize that it was possible."
To be able to pay the US$ 1.3 billion for his ticket for the trip Patrick sold his majority stake in the business empire his father had built. "I know that my father would have been proud of me if he had still been alive today, he knew what this means to me", says Patrick. There is no risk though that you will find Patrick begging in your street corner when he comes back, rumors says that he was paid twice as much for his part of the company.
So, how is he going to spend his 600 days on the red planet? "Well, since I don't have a job when I get back after selling the company, I have plenty of time to come up with a new business idea", he says and laughs. If he brings a shovel he can start building the first hotel there, but maybe he shouldn't expect too many guests until someone can offer a lower transfer fare.
Argument: Several organizations plan to put the first man on Mars by year 2030 and the developing of space tourism during the next decades will give the possibility of bringing "tourists" to Mars. According to Nasa the most likely way to go will be a "Long-Stay Mission (fast transit)" with 4-6 months to get there and a 600 days stay before returning.
Questions: What possibilities will occur due to the exploration of Mars this century? Will Mars become a tourist destination in the future although you have to stay for 600 days before you can return to earth?

January 19, 2035 - According to the latest statistics presented this week, 1 million hydrogen-fueled cars have now been sold in the US. The figures for last year show an increase in sales by 50% from 2033.

January 8, 2035 - With a first prize of seven million US dollar and the intriguing plot of trying to fool or outsmart Arnold, the most advanced artificial intelligence in public use, the much hyped live show “Fooling Arnold” became the people’s choice this Saturday.
December 20, 2030 - The launch yesterday of the virtual realistic-looking human newscaster from Simple News gained rave reviews. Others have made several attempts earlier, but this sends the live newscasters in to a pretty shaky future.
December 18, 2020 - This year shows strong growth for wind power when the total global installed capacity added a record 62,000 MW, making the total capacity more than 680,000 MW. Wind power is by far the renewable source with the largest growth in worldwide capacity during the last decade.
December 15, 2030 - There's no doubt what the most popular Christmas present will be this year. Influenced by the launch of the first manned mission to Mars next month, you will most likely get a present with stars, a gift card for a spacetrip.
November 19, 2040 - Today was a historic day for Iceland when their President this morning at a symbolic ceremony officially shut down the last gasoline pump in the country. Iceland is a model country when it comes to the fuel transition from gasoline to hydrogen and became today the first country in the world to complete it.
September 12, 2035 - Are you kidding? Is it possible to beam myself? No, of course not, but you can now make a 3-D projection of yourself anywhere in the world. The first product for real teleimmersion has been released, the Telebeamer.
September 5, 2035 - More than 20,000 quadriplegics around the world have now got a BCI, a Brain Computer Interface. It gives them the ability to control their environment, from driving their own electric wheelchairs outside their house, to make their own dinner.

I think we might find a way to cope wit the conditions in Mars and migrate there. Hopefully we don't encounter anyone who happens to already be there. Earth will simply become a hellhole to us. We will have no significance for it. And by then...hopefully we'll have some frikin damn flying cars.. lol

I don't know why they're reporting on ONE tourist when the Alphamatix Upload Base is stationed there providing upload backup services for the past 15 years. Not to mention the LMM Habitat that's in orbit, which I've been to and is quite nice for a no grav environment. While I've never stepped foot on Mars I do have my backup profile of my mind stored at Alphamatix so that should count for something right?
No what you need to report is the amount of food that's being wasted because people aren't digiting their home robots and letting them know that they're going to be late!

Recently, rocket propulsion scientists in China started work on advanced rocket propulsion. And American Frankin Chang Diaz has been working on plasma propulsion for years. If any of these projects come to fruition, or relevant DoD projects get declassified, we could make a trip to Mars and back in several months. This is the first order of business because a shorter trip means a lot less logistics, radiation exposure, fuel and food. We could easily and cheaply send a team to Mars and back this way by 2020 or even 2015 if pressed. Hope this happens before hydrocarbons become too scarce and expensive...

this is kinda weird how can someone know what will happen 40 years from now.I don't doubt that we will go to mars i just don't understand how people can predict the name of the person going let alone what he is going to say. Plus if the first man on mars went in the 2030's how was it a dream of his since 2016?

Well.things will com far early than expected.sm ppl had predicted commercial cargo spaceships to moon by 2008 ,to mars by 2013,for importing helium3 and other rare minerals.but its not psbl.so we expect it to happen by 2017? We shld start building helium3 refineries' in parts and assemble them at mars to start the mass production!:-)

Several organizations plan to put the first man on Mars by year 2030 and most likely it will done in a collaboration between those due to giant costs.
