Antarctic Ozone Layer Soon to be Restored

Antarctic Ozone Layer Soon to be RestoredJanuary 31, 2050 - Scientists now believe that the ozone layer over Antarctic will in 15 years be basically restored to the level it had in 1980. This will mean a great victory for international co-operation when it comes to the reduction of ozone-depleting gases.

In January 1989, the Montreal Protocol came in effect eventually signed by more than 160 nations, which included a timetable on which the production of several groups of halogenated hydrocarbons had to stop.

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were in 1974 recognized by Mario Molina and Sherry Rowland, chemists at the University of California, as harmful to the Earth's ozone layer, even though production of CFCs had started already in the 1920s. They were awarded with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1995 due to their work.

The hole in the ozone layer over Antarctic covered at its worst an area bigger than Canada 45 years ago. The depletion varies over the seasons, but accelerate when the sunlight comes back after the winter.

Argument: According to the study When will the Antarctic ozone hole recover, the ozone layer will in year 2068 be restored to the level it had 1980.

I have always felt that these issues are exaggrated. In my openion, Nature does these things to restore global balance.

it really is so good that the ozone is healing itself. It is a shame that global warming won't heal itself though.

nature balances itself out?
i don't think "nature" planned on us picking apart ressources at a ridiculous pace.

earth hour is coming on march 29th its this thing where you turn of lights and power in your house for one hour for respect for your planet.
most people who are aware of this day will not comply.

why not ? Take a walk for once, get in shpae and save 50 cents on your electric bill.

we only have one planet and we are killing it as we speak .

media exagerates this issues yes, scietist exagerate issues for funding , sometimes, this issues are still real and it is our responsibility to make it for what others have done.

nah... lets just destroy everything and find a new planet to destroy.

because time is money...

Salary rises and so does the cost of wheat.
Otherwise how will the farmer and the salesperson selling the wheat make a living?

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080411/un_food_prices.html

we will just have to wait and see because right know i really don't care.

All of this stuff is more political than anything else

I agree with Raj Chanani. If only he could spell opinion right.:) I think that the Earth will be fine, it has adjusted to everything people and animals have thrown at it thus far and it will be fine a billion years from now. It was made for people or god wouldn't have put us here. So, sufjan., you can stfu. You just got what you said off of another website anyway. I've seen it many times..:)
Just chill out and relax, the Earth will be fine.

i think our ozone would be gone be 2080 if they are going by what people are saying today. After all ......it's a small world after all, it's a small world....

I really think that we originated from Mars. I know I probably sound stupid right now, but think about it...

Is this scientifically correct? Or, just for fun?

people are in great danger artificial intelligence is getting high this not a joke you guys are in great danger!

i believe we have this idea that humanity is meant to survive when we are simply beings living our time as many others have come and left in the past.

i also don't think we "broke" nature's rules for the simple reason that we are part of it. when we use unsustainable amount of resources we are still part of nature. when we recycle we are also part of nature.

many animals end up dying because they ruin their own habitat and thats all a natural process. itll be a very sad one when it happens to us but thats "life".

everything is born and dies in the universe as far as we know.

i dont think we are the one exception.

lastly, by saying all this i dont mean we shouldn't try to fix the issues we encounter. i just mean that what we do or not is part of the natural process we go through.

Even if it will restore by itself, we need to prevent destruction of so many things we have influence on.

fuck polar bears

Good thing they were able to restore it we can't have it any worse.
